The Javelin throw is typically thrown on two surfaces. Synthetic rubber runway and grass runway. Although Shoes come with 1/2" spikes, most meets with a synthetic runway only allow 1/4". For grass runways, I recommend 5/8" spikes for proper traction.
For athletes who already have running spikes/flats the javelin heel is recommended for adding heel traction during the plant.
Javelin spikes are important for improved performance and injury prevention.
