There is a lot of confusion on what level javelin; athletes should choose.  Javelin has two sizes 600 grams for women and 800 grams for men. The basics of the javelin is the higher the meter rating the stiffer the javelin. Men's 50m(164ft) soft; 90m (295ft) very stiff. Women's 30m (99ft) soft; 70m (229ft) very stiff.  Javelins are rated by 10 meter increments.  Often throwers choose the most expensive highest meter rated javelins in hope of throwing farther which is the opposite.  I have personally seen a thrower throw 75m+ (246+ft) with a 50m rated javelin. My recommendation is to choose a javelin about 10 meters from your personal best. If you throw 30 meters choose a 40m javelin, throw 50m choose 60m javelin etc.
